Here we go again Hawkeye faithfuls. Another week, another Saturday, another step towards making history. This week is Northwestern's (5-4, 2-3) turn to try to play spoiler to the 9-0, undefeated Iowa Hawkeyes. I love saying that; 9-0, undefeated. Really rolls off the tongue doesn't it?
Say it with me once. "Nine and O, Undefeated." Nice.
Where was I? Oh yeah. This week is Northwestern's turn to lose like the rest. Theoretically, Northwestern should go down easier than Jenna Jameson (I love Jenna), but we all have come to expect a slow first half and a stop or two at "Ricki Stanzi's Traveling Interception Show." In my infinite wisdom, I have to say that this is what I fully expect to see. But like every week, I also expect the Hawkeyes to some how, some way, find a way to win. I expect to be visibly upset until the fourth quarter. I have already bought a refill of my Just For Men. And I must say that now that I have come to terms with how my Saturdays will be, I feel much better. I'm not even nervous any more.
Unlike Terry Bradshaw, Jim Rome and all the other so-called "football experts" who have jumped on the anti-Iowa bandwagon, I have faith. I have been to the games. I have seen what this team is all about. These bandwagoners are actually rooting for the Hawkeyes to lose every week just so they can save face and say "I told you so."
Well kiss my ass Bradshaw. Aren't you from Iowa? Did the NFL completely void you of any sense of loyalty?
Every media clown that still persists in their Hawkeye-bashing ways will be eating crow again on Sunday. All this nonsense I read about how the Hawkeyes are a "less than perfect undefeated team," and "fortunate to be 9-0" is total propagandist bullshit. Of course they are less than perfect. Has any team in the history of any sport been absolutely perfect? Of course not. Has any undefeated team ever been unfortunate to get there? Hell no. Why do these writers continue to print this crap? I don't even know how they find the time between kissing Colt McCoy's ass and blowing Tim Tebow.
Anyhow, tommorrow at 11 AM. in Kinnick Stadium our Hawkeyes will once again have a chance to silence these critics. There really isn't a lot to say about the game or Northwestern at this point. They really have no players worth mentioning. They aren't that good of a team. Obviously, they cannot be overlooked.
But the fact remains that all they are is just another team in our way. So get out your black and gold, do what you do to send luck their way, and I'll see you at the game. Go Hawkeyes!
