Here we go Hawkeye fans. Another Saturday, another huge game. Just think about it, we win tommorrow and we are already bowl eligible, our unbeaten streak (2nd longest active streak in country) goes to 10 in a row, and we enter the top AP Top 10 undefeated at 6-0. Sounds like a dream doesn't it? Well folks, hold on to your black and gold hats because the Hawkeyes are 60 minutes of hard-nosed Big Ten football away from making it happen.
So what do we have to look forward to Saturday night (7:00 p.m., ABC TV)? More Iowa Defense for one. The Hawkeye defensive unit comes into the game with its usual dominating cast who haven't given up a rushing touchdown in the last 33 quarters of football.
And I for one cannot wait to see how this over-hyped freshman, Tate Forcier, handles the constant pressure on him and his passing game. I am so excited to see this kid hit the ground time after time I can hardly sit still. Let's see if Forcier (puke) and Michigan can put up their 34 ppg average against a real Defense. No chance.
Offensively, the Hawkeyes, for the first time this season, have their entire starting offense healthy and on the field together. The entire front line is healthy and off suspension, and the addition of Tony Moeaki gives added support to the passing game. We all know that there is plenty of room for improvement with this unit, but remember that we have seen steady gains from week to week. Let's hope this trend continues. I for one am rooting for Mr. Stanzi. No interceptions this week big guy! You can do it!!?? Make me a believer, pleeeaaase. And let us not forget about freshmen Robinson and Wegher. They are both looking to have big games against the 9th ranked defense in the Big Ten.
After all of that you may be wondering what we actually have to be worried about. How about the fact that we are playing Michigan (4-1, 1-1 Big 10), the winningest football program of all time. How about the fact that the little freshman fart Forcier has orchestrated two 4th quarter comebacks this season. No prevent defense this week dammit. It will not work. Norm Parker need to step up his blitz packages late in the game or we could find ourselves in another tight spot. I don't know if my heart can handle another nailbiter this week. Seriously.
So that's it. A lot on the line tommorrow night. While we are 8 point favorites and I do think that we will remain unbeaten (IA 20- MI 16), I am admittedly nervous. How will I and thousands of other Hawkeye fans deal with these trepidations? Why, we drink of course.
The late kickoff absolutely assures that I will be nothing but confident come game time. And I will fit right in as my good friend and main operator of iowahawkeyes.net, the incomperable Bret Feddern, was kind enough to buy me a kick-ass ticket for the game in the student section. College girls beware! I'm coming for you. And Michigan beware, the Iowa Hawkeyes are coming for you!
