Another Saturday, another big game for the Iowa Hawkeyes, another chance for "sports experts" to try and save face by picking Iowa to lose again. That's right, almost everyone is picking Michigan State this week. But hey, if you pick the Hawkeyes to lose every week eventually you have to guess right, right? Not with this team you assholes.
The Hawks, (7-0, 3-0), are looking to make history this season by becoming the first Iowa team to ever start the season a perfect 8-0. To do this they will face their biggest challenge yet in a tough Michigan State (4-3, 3-1) team that has been getting better all season after two close losses early in the year.
The Michigan State Spartans are led by Kirk Cousins, the top rated passer in the Big Ten with a 146.45 RAT and a 63.5% completion rate. Fortunately for him he has only been sacked 5 times all season. Unfortunately for him he now faces arguably the best defense in the country and will be on his back more times today than he has all season. This constant pressure, something Cousins has not seen yet, is bound to lead to his unraveling tonight (remember Forcier?). I'm just saying, we have all heard about the hyped up running and passing teams in the Big Ten and the Hawkeyes Defense have shut them all down. Today should be no different.
Iowa's Defense does lead the country in interceptions (15), is 2nd in takeaways (22), and tops the Big Ten and among the top 5 in country in turnover margin (plus 11) and pass efficiency defense (88.7). I fully expect tonight's game to go much the same way the first seven games this season have; a close game, dominated by the Iowa defense, resulting in yet another Hawkeye victory. IA-20, MSU-17
So get ready Hawkeye fans for another nailbiter. This is gonna be one hard-fought game.
Before I leave you all to prepare for tonight's game (Big Ten Network, 6 p.m.) please everyone, join me in prayer for young Ricky Stanzi and the Iowa Hawkeyes. "Lord, we pray that you give Ricky the brains and poise to go a second game in a row without an interception. We ask that you, in your infinite wisdom, allow him the leadership to bring our Hawkeyes another victory today, so that we may rub it in the faces of every announcer and sportswriter that refuses to have even a little faith in our beloved Hawkeyes. Amen."
