The University of Iowa is trying to boost student season ticket sales. As part of their effort, they are trying to come up with new and unique incentives to encourage students to purchase season tickets for football and men's basketball. Students enrolling at the U of Iowa in the fall of 2009 will receive a gift from the Athletics Department if they purchase season tickets: their choice of a black or silver lunch box.
What the hell is a college freshman going to do with a workman's lunchbox???
"It's symbolic of the work and, more importantly, the fun they're going to have for the next four years as students at the UI and as Hawkeyes," said Rick Klatt, associate athletics director for external affairs.
I get the symbolism. But my question is still valid: what the hell is a college freshman going to do with a workman's lunchbox???
Klatt said the lunch box will also serve as a reminder to students of the many opportunities they'll have during their years on campus. Personally, I am a little envious. I would love to have one of these lunchboxes, as it is a very unique piece of Hawkeye memorabilia. But I am not a college freshman. And if I were, this wouldn't make me purchase season tickets.
