It was inevitable. Eventually all that Murphy's Pomade was going to seep into Captain Hair Gel's brain and cause a complete mental breakdown.
And it finally happened.
For whatever reason, New Mexico head coach Steve Alford got into a verbal confrontation with BYU player Jonathan Tavernari after a recent game. In the handshake line, Alford has some choice words for Tavernari.
By choice words, I mean he called the kid an asshole and a punk...with a camera two feet away.
Apparently not knowing that the words were caught on camera, he then opts to explain things to ESPN in a way only Captain Hair Gel can.
"I was telling him he had a phenomenal year and career at BYU," Alford said of the Tavernari. “He was obviously upset and had words for me."

Ever since his declaration to forgo his senior season at the Iowa, Bryan Bulaga has been regarded as a first round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
ESPN's Mel Kiper has said he could be the first Big Ten player selected in this year's draft.
He was named 2009 Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year, and is considered one of the top three tackles in the draft, along with Russell Okung of Oklahoma State and Trent Williams from Oklahoma. He looked to improve upon that in Indianapolis.
With his team interviews and workout drills so far at the NFL combine, Bulaga was able to quickly dispel the two red-flag topics surrounding him during the combine madness.
First, he addressed his health issue.
It's been argued that taking a break from your passion from time to time is a good thing.
A break can help bring new clarity, new enthusiasm, new hope. It can refresh the mind and re-energize the body.
Well, that's the theory anyway.
The nine-day break wasn't a good thing for the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team. Rather than provide some much needed rest for the young players, it appeared the break allowed the dust to collect and the pace to drastically slow.
"You'd think we'd be ready to go," Iowa sophomore guard Matt Gatens told reporters after the Hawkeyes lossto the Wildcats. That's what a lot of fans thought, too.
Gatens, along with Eric May combined to miss 13 three-point shots in Iowa's loss to Northwestern. For a team that lives or dies by the three, that's a signed death certificate.
So much for that theory about breaks.

FOUR HAWKEYE WRESTLERS FINISHED THE REGULAR SEASON UNDEFEATED.
Wow.
It's a sign of a healthy program when seven of its players are about to head to the NFL combine in a few days.
Hawkeye fans have a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to, as seven Iowa players prepare for the the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine, held from Feb. 24 to March 2.
Bryan Bulaga, Kyle Calloway, Pat Angerer, Amari Spievey, A.J. Edds, Tony Moeaki, and Dace Richardson will all get a chance to demonstrate their skills in Indianapolis.
Over the past month or so, I have tried to profile Iowa's NFL prospects. In the process, I tried to select a few possible teams interested in each player.
With that research behind me, it's now time for my Iowa Hawkeyes-style 2010 NFL Mock Draft, pre-combine edition.
Round 1: No. 13, San Francisco—Bryan Bulaga, OG
With the No. 13 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Bryan Bulaga, OG.
Bulaga waited until after Iowa smashed Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl to declare his early departure to the NFL.
After his dominating Orange Bowl performance, ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Jr. now projects Bulaga to be the first Big Ten player taken in this year's draft.
Being named 2009 Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year probably helped shape Kiper's opinion, as well.
The junior is a solid all-around blocking machine with great feet—perfect for a team looking to bolster their run or pass blocking. While he is stronger against the run than he is against the pass, Bulaga is quick to adapt and thinks well under pressure.
The 49ers could definitely use some help on the offensive line. San Francisco went 8-8 on the year, and gave up 40 sacks. They ranked 27th in total yards, 25th in rushing offense, 22nd in passing offense, and 18th in scoring.

It seems former Iowa Hawkeyes head basketball coach Steve Alford is having the time of his life in New Mexico.
The No. 12 ranked Lobos (25-3 overall, 10-2 MWC) helped Alford achieve a historic mark in his career the other night by winning his 300th Division I win as head coach (Southwest Missouri, Iowa and New Mexico). It was their tenth-straight win overall.
With just two games remaining against teams with winning records, his team is expected to reach the NCAA tournament with a fairly high seed.
"He's a great coach and a great leader, on and off the floor," said UNM forward Roman Martinez. "He deserves everything he gets. It was really big for him. We gave him the game ball afterward. It was huge."
Huh?
